Stabilized Continuous and Discontinuous Galerkin Techniques For

We design stabilized methods based on the variational multiscale decomposition of Darcy’s problem. A model for the subscales is designed by using a heuristic Fourier analysis. This model involves a characteristic length scale, that can go from the element size to the diameter of the domain, leading to stabilized methods with different stability and convergence properties. These stabilized metho...

A stabilized mixed discontinuous Galerkin method for Darcy flow

A new mixed, stabilized, discontinuous Galerkin formulation for Darcy flow is presented. The formulation combines several attributes not simultaneously satisfied by other methods: It is convergent for any combination of velocity and pressure interpolation higher than first-order, it exactly satisfies a mass balance on each element, and it passes twoand three-dimensional constant-flow ‘‘patch te...

Mixed Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Darcy Flow

We consider a family of mixed finite element discretizations of the Darcy flow equations using totally discontinuous elements (both for the pressure and the flux variable). Instead of using a jump stabilization as it is usually done for DG methods (see e.g. [3], [13] and the references therein) we use the stabilization introduced in [18], [17]. We show that such stabilization works for disconti...

A Hybrid Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Darcy-Stokes Problems

We propose and analyze a hybrid discontinuous Galerkin method for the solution of incompressible flow problems, which allows to deal with pure Stokes, pure Darcy, and coupled Darcy-Stokes flow in a unified manner. The flexibility of the method is demonstrated in numerical examples.
